At Westlake Primary School, the head, Tracey Petersen-Brown, proudly showed us the beautifully decorated and equipped repurposed Grade “R” classroom and introduced us to the enthusiastic teacher, Tamy Ruiters.
RC Constantia partnered with Canadian Rotarian Robert Martin, who came on a Friendship Exchange, to cover the salary of the teacher for the first year of this new class.
We watched the girls playing netball in the quad, saw the site designated for the Grade R playground, which is being partially funded by a District Grant, and then visited the impressive artificial grass field provided by the Club 4 years ago. It is in daily use, is in lovely condition, and provides a venue for many different sporting options.
The staff are all committed to giving the 800 pupils a well-rounded education.
