GRAND OPENING OF MULTIPURPOSE SPORTSFIELDS AT GROSVENOR PRIMARY SCHOOL
IN ATLANTIS ON FRIDAY 23 RD JANUARY 2026
About 80 invited guests drawn from senior levels of Education management, Rotary District
and Club membership, local Ward councilors and sporting bodies gathered on the rugby
practice-field at the Grosvenor Primary school where tentsand gazebos
created a festive atmosphere. They arrived to see scholars playing football, netball,
athletics and doing agility training on the various new fields. Eighteen months previously,
this whole area was covered with builder’s rubble and no sports facilities
were available to the 1000 scholars at this non-fee-paying school.
The project, to provide these magnificent synthetic-grass maintenance-free facilities,
was undertaken by the Rotary Club of Constantia, with assistance from the
Rotary Club of Atlantis and made possible by a R4m grant from a publicity-shy Family Trust,
who have seen the success of their similar projects at Westlake, Capricorn,
and Siyazakha Primary Schools.
The Project Team of retired professionals at Constantia Rotary has all the necessary skills
to interact with the school Principal and SGB, to assess their needs, and design layouts,
establish costs, raise funds, subcontract and manage all aspects of the construction,
saving 10% or more than if it was purchased as a turnkey operation.

To open proceedings, guests were treated to an enthusiastic rendition of the
National and School anthems by the school choir. Keynote speakers were
District Governor of Rotary D9350, Pam Rawbone and MNED Director Wendy Horn.
Ribbon cutting was performed by President-Elect Ross Kelly and
Grosvenor Principal, Terence Adams. Terence, also thanked the Donors, contractors and
Project team and described the huge impetus the facility had given to the school and
the Local Community. Included in the Project package were sporting equipment, clothing,
and a sum for professional coaching.
The President of Rotary Club of Atlantis, Danny Pietersen, also thanked the visitors
and presented memento plaques to the Donor and Project leaders.
Visitors and scholar participants were treated to refreshments and
left with smiling faces less than two hours after their arrival.
